What to do with your credit card and your credit report in case of identity theft
If you do not want someone to access your personal free credit report, you have the right, to freeze your Free credit report. This means that nobody can access your free credit report until you return the permission to “thaw” your free credit report. Freezing your free credit report can take some time, but it may be necessary if you are the victim of identity theft.
Follow these steps to block your free credit report: To freeze your free credit report, it is necessary to send a certified letter. In this letter, you have to provide 6 necessary documents before the bank institution can freeze your free credit report. These information include your full constant name, your address, birth date, social security number, a copy of your driver’s license and proof of your address (or the last 2 years). If you are a victim of identity theft, you have to do this also by the police station to bring to protocol, by selecting a report with your request to freeze your free credit report.
Freezing your credit card: In addition you must also extra require in your bank institution that your credit card will be frozen. Each state has slightly different requirements for freezing your credit card. You have to consider by freezing your credit card and your free credit report that your financial options are restricted to your credit card and your free credit report till you open them again.
